A Little of This and That

It seems as though Mason is growing up a little more each day. Scott and I continue to be amazed by all of the new things that Mason learns every day. Mason's current interests include playing with his cars and trains and saying "vroom, vroom" as he pushes them around the floor, waving "bye bye" whenever he sees vehicles drive by (this must be because he waves goodbye to Scott every day when he leaves for work), reading books, dancing, acting out songs such as Twinkle Twinkle and the Itsy-Bitsy Spider (I need to get this on video one of these days), making animal sounds when we ask him to (of course only we can distinguish the difference between a monkey and a cow), being outside and so much more.

Although he still isn't walking he gets along quite well (and quite quickly) by crawling. I pulled out the exersaucer a few weeks ago to lend to a friend and Mason discovered that it is quite fun to crawl underneath and play around. Mason is such an easy-going, happy and affectionalte little boy. He is always laughing and smiling and LOVES to give kisses.
He is almost off of bottles completely. The only bottle he gets is at bedtime and we are going to phase this out next week. We can't seem to get him to drink cold milk though so we continue to warm his milk even for the sippy cup. Drinking from the sippy cup also only works when he is laying down as he won't tip the cup back in order to reach the milk. I would welcome suggestions from anyone if you have any.
Today was a very exciting day: Mason met his brand new cousin Noah for the first time. Noah was only 6 hours old and Mason was very intrigued by this little bundle. I am sure that the two of them will have lots of fun playing together in the not-so-distant future. Congrats Rebecca and Joe!!
Well, this tuckered mom is off to bed. Until next time...

The Big Tub

The inflatable duckie tub bit the dust last week so Mason has now graduated to the big tub. At first he was a little overwhelmed by all of the space in the tub and when his toys floated out of reach (something that never happened in the duckie tub) he wouldn't try to retrieve them. Fast forward 2 days: Mason splashes, grabs for his toys and also tries to crawl around. The tub is sooo much fun!

Little Monkey

It seems as though every time that I try to record some video of Mason he gets "shy" and doesn't do a whole heck of a lot. This little clip shows Mason demonstrating some of his dance moves (he will usually pump his arm like he is flexing his bicep - must be a move of his dad's), crawling and chattering.

Mason still is not walking but he is making some progress. He pulls up a little more now (thank goodness) and is getting a little braver at standing up and holding himself up against furniture. I really hope that he is walking before September because I want to be around to experience the moment with him.

The Lazy Days of Summer

We have had some incredible weather these past 2 weeks. We got Mason's little inflatable pool out and splashed around in the shade to try and keep cool. When Scott got home from work he joined us and we all had snacks outside on the blanket (because Mason still won't venture onto the grass.) Mason likes to chew on his sunglasses but really doesn't like to wear them on his face. We discovered that he will wear them on his hat.
Two seconds after I took this picture the sunglasses were off.
We went to visit The Carlis at their cottage (right on the beach) last week. Mason walked (holding onto my hands) towards the water and then when I placed him into the water he freaked out. I think it may have been the waves that he didn't like. Setting him down in the sand to capture the moment with Declan didn't get rave reviews either!
Will Mason ever become a beach baby?

Summ, Summ, Summertime!

Woohoo!! It's finally here: summer holidays! (Okay, I must admit that my 7 week stint at work went by extremely fast and I really didn't feel that "I need summer now" feeling at the end of June but I am still happy to be off for the next 2 months.)

Warm weather means time for a summer haircut. Mason had his second haircut a few weeks ago and got to experience the clippers for the first time. He was great with the whole experience and the stylist even gave him an edgy "faux hawk" with gel and everything! We haven't styled it like this since then but he sure looked cute.

Summer also means heading to the beach and hanging out on outdoor patios. We went to the Dard for lunch last week and Mason and daddy were checking out the "sea gulls" (wink, wink) along the shoreline. It seems like such a long time ago that Scott was managing the Dard and I was slinging drinks. We both agreed that although we had a blast working in the industry, we don't miss that lifestyle and wouldn't change where we are now for the world.
Summer also means taking leisurely strolls in small-town Ontario and checking out the local cafes and festivities. We went to Creemore for Canada Day and stopped for a coffee and snack at one of the little cafes (it was too early for Creemore Springs!) Mason remained in his backpack carrier and made silly faces in between bites.
Back at home, I tried to get a picture of Mason with the flag but he was only interested in what Daddy was doing. You will notice he is sitting on a blanket. Mason HATES the feel of grass on his skin. It is quite funny to watch him freak out when he comes in contact with the green blades. He tries to lift both legs in the air while holding his arms up but this causes him to lose his balance and he must then drop one leg to the ground in order to steady himself. This is almost too much for him to handle as he then starts to whine and cry for us to pick him up off of the grass (which we do after a few chuckles and soothing comments). Maybe by the end of summer he will be better with this.
I hope that all of you are having a fantastic summer! Stay tuned for more of Mason's summer adventures...
