Say Cheese!

Check out that smile!

Brushing the Pearly Whites

Mason still hasn't quite figured out the whole idea of brushing his teeth. He really likes the taste of his toothpaste and gets quite excited when he sees us with his toothbrush in our hands. He really just sucks the toothpaste off of the bristles and then chews on the brush. Mmmmmm! Strawberry banana flavour!
It takes a lot of concentration to brush one's teeth and keep one's balance!

Hiking

Yeah for Spring!!! It has been so great to get outside after such a long winter. Mason loves to be outdoors and we have been spending a lot of time "out and about" in the fresh air. The trails behind our house are now dry and we have been out a few times to walk them. The backpack carrier is such a great way to transport Mason.

Here's another of our infamous family self-portraits. Mason must be looking at the wildlife.
This week Mason and I are going to put the jogging stroller to the test when we go jogging on the trails.

Yardwork

I have been trying to get all of our yardwork done while Mason is napping but I am finding that this isn't putting much of a dent in the tasks. (I think that we need a smaller yard!) I put Mason in his exersaucer so that he could play and watch me work but unfortunately he only found this to be amusing for about 10 minutes. I then moved him onto a blanket on the grass with his toys but this also proved to be short-lived. So, I called it quits for the yardwork and instead had a great time playing with Mason. The yardwork can wait - in only a few short weeks I won't have the opportunity to just hang out with Mason during the week so I am going to turn my schedule over completely to Mason for the next 3 weeks. I will let you know about all of our adventures!

Enjoying the Weather

Yesterday when Scott got home from work we hooked up our super deluxe stroller to the bike for the first time ever. Last summer Mason was too tiny for the stroller and by the time that he was big enough the snow was on the ground so we only used it to go for walks not bike rides. We decided to take Mason to the park and Scott pulled the trailer behind his bike while I nervously rode behind to make sure that the trailer didn't come off of the hitch. (About half way to the park I relaxed enough to ride beside the trailer so that Mason could see me.) We only took Mason to the park once last year in the fall when he was 4 months old (check out my September post) and this was really only for our enjoyment as he wasn't old enough to enjoy the experience. This year is a whole new experience and soooo much fun! He thought it was pretty neat to sit up in this little rocking bus like a big boy.
His absolute favourite thing about the park though was the swing! He was giggling and smiling the entire time that he was in it. He kept closing his eyes and laughing as the swing moved forward towards us almost as if he thought that he was going to crash into us.

There were lots of kids at the park and Mason was totally enthralled in watching them run around all over the equipment. Just after this picture was taken he (with Scott's help) walked over towards all of the action.
We are going to have to get a little swing for our backyard now!

11 Months Old!

On Monday Mason will be 11 months old!! Can you believe it? Some days it seems like so long ago that I was pregnant with him and other days it seems like just yesterday. Mason now has 6 teeth (4 uppers and 2 on the bottom) and wants to be on the go all of the time. It's too bad that he hasn't figured out how to crawl!!! We are still helping him to walk around and he is getting a little steadier on his feet. Our backs are definitely not enjoying this so we put him in a clothes basket the other day and pushed him around the house. I go back to work one month from today! Mason has started to spend some time at daycare in order to make the transition easier on him (and me). He spent a full half day there on Thursday and did everything that he was supposed to do: he had a snack, he napped for an hour and a half, ate his lunch and happily played with new toys and explored his surroundings. I am hoping that all of his experiences will go just as smoothly! I am going to miss him so much when I am back to work but I know that he is in excellent hands at his daycare provider's and that he is going to learn and grow so much because of his daily interactions with the other kids at daycare. Still, it is going to be really hard not to be there first hand to witness all of these new discoveries.

First Haircut!

Mason's hair was starting to look a little scraggly and he was beginning to look as though he were getting ready for the hockey playoffs with a mini-mullet. (Take a look at the first photo below.) I really wanted to wait until just after his first birthday to cut his hair but Scott convinced me that it was time to take Mason for his first haircut. I took him to a kids' "salon" at the mall for his first experience. He was so enthralled by the TVs with Treehouse playing that he didn't pay much attention to what was taking place around his head. I must admit that I was a little nervous as the scissors came close to his ears and he would try to turn to see the TVs but all went well.
He looked so little sitting in the Thomas the Train seat!
My camera's batteries died so this last picture was taken once we got home. I must admit, he does look much better with his hair nicely trimmed. Bye-bye baby Mason and hello little boy!
